In the Everglades National park, a white heron perches in the brush near the Shark Valley Visitor Center. The Shark Valley Visitor center is quite easily accessible from Miami and, though you don't think you are getting deep into the Everglades, you will almost always see some interesting wildlife.
Regarding the name, Shark Valley is a geological depression at the head of the Shark River Slough ... there are no sharks here!
